Taking the Lead

Recently, we traveled to Rayong to participate in a meeting for the Thai leaders of our churches in Central Thailand. There were very few missionaries in attendance, and we were there just to support and serve the others. It brought a wonderful feeeling to see our Thai churches and leaders get to the point where there are doing most things on their own.

Ajan Nat was the main organizer of the event. As head of the Thai Mennonite Brethren Church Association, she is trying to develop leaders and build unity between the believers.

Bob Davis, visiting from North America, was the only westerner presenting at the meeting. He spoke about our Multiply Strategy Map and also about how the Thai MB churches are connected to other MB churches around the world through ICOMB.

Anthony, visiting from Malaysia, shared a message of encouragement. He had a powerful testimony of how God rescued him from a very dark place.

The conference center where we met was on the eastern shores of the Gulf of Thailand. Those who got up early enough were treated to a beautiful sunrise each day. The dawn skies are a reminder of how a new day is dawning for our churches here. Not too long ago, missionaries came in and did most of the work of starting churches. Gradually, leaders were trained. Little by little, the Thai leaders took over responsibilities. Now, we missionaries are serving and supporting the Thai leaders as they reach out with the gospel.
